About Us

Bluebay Aquaculture, Inc. was established in 2002 (SEC Registration No. A200208572) as an aquaculture company by a group of professional aquaculturists with vast experience in private and government projects locally and internationally. It started its operations initially as a shrimp hatchery in Tigbauan, Iloilo but decided to stop the shrimp hatchery business because of problems in the supply and quality of shrimp broodstocks.

In 2003, Bluebay Aquaculture, Inc. started the finfish breeding farm in Munoz, Nueva Ecija, producing mainly hybrid Tilapia fingerlings. The facility includes a covered hatchery building, outdoor larval rearing tanks, a natural feed laboratory, and earthen broddstock and nursery ponds. Although the main objective of Bluebay is to produce commercial quantity of hybrid Tilapia fingerlings, from 2003 to 2006 most of the its operation was geared towards research and develooment on the following:

  • Tilapia broodstock conditioning
  • Tilapia broodstock hybridization
  • Tilapia fry collection from earthen pond and net base
  • Tilapia sex reversal technology
  • Tilapia nursery operation
  • Tilapia grow-out farming
  • Induced spawning technique in Pangasius
  • Commercial larval rearing of Pangasius

After three long years of experimentation and technology verification, Bluebay Aquaculture Inc. has developed its own technique of producing high quality hybrid Tilapia fingerlings and was ready to commercialize the operations.

On the 2nd half of 2006, extensive research was also done on artificial breeding of Pangasius.

In 2007, Bluebay Aquaculture Inc. started its expansion program to commercialize its operations on the production of hybrid Tilapia fingerlings and Pangasius. As an initial move, it took over the Meralco Foundation, Inc. (MFI) aquaculture facilities in Jala-jala, Rizal.

At present, Bluebay Aquaculture is one of the leading Tilapia breeding farms in the Philippines and the only Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources accredited commercial Pangasius breeder. With its existing collaborations with research institutions such as SEAFDEC, Freshwater Aquaculture Center of the Central Luzon State University, and MFI, Bluebay is aiming to capture 20% of the national requirement of hybrid tilapia fingerlings in the next five years. Bluebay is also working on the breeding or ornamental and aquarium fishes as future projects to augment the Philippine aquaculture export business.
